Magazine Adverts From Artists of the Same Genre:

FLICKING THROUGH MY HUGE MAGAZINE COLLECTION I HAVE GATHERED OVER THE YEARS I HAVE COME ACROSS SEVERAL MAGAZINE ADVERTS ABOUT ARTISTS FROM THE INDIE GENRE. THERE SEEMS TO BE A REGULAR FORMAT OF THESE MAGAZINE ADVERTS WHICH IT LOOKS LIKE WE MUST FOLLOW TOO.

This advert was from NME. Although it is promoting an Indie album from 'The Pigeon Detectives'  it is in a similar format to how singles are promoted. There is a background image related to the album, the band's logo and praising quotes. However, an image of the album is missing. As a result we will probably use a few features of this advert [quotes, logo, background image] but not all of the features as this is not typical of Indie single promotions.

This advert is also from NME. It is promoting an album not a single but promotion for both are very similar anyway. Once again there is no picture of the CD just a background image, the band's logo and the band's website. I like the idea of including the web address to a band's website because it gives the audience a chance to fully engage with the band, their image and music. I also like the washed out look the advert has as our advert will have the same look due to the theme of the music video. It almost creates a vintage, scrapbook and arty look. This type of visal experimentation is common with the indie genre.

Also from NME as it is the place to look for Indie bands, this advert is once again promoting an album not a single. This is because these types of music promotion are more common than single promotion. Once again there is a background image, the band's logo but no quotes or album picture. This seems to be common amongst promotion for Indie bands as the album cover is used as the background. As a result these features will most likely be prominent in our magazine advert.

All this shows that magazine adverts have the Digi-pack cover as the background image, information about the single ]release date etc], praising quotations, the band's web link and logos of where the Digi-pack can be purchased.
