MUSIC VIDEO: Inspiration: 'A Button Like No Other' by Pistola Kicks

A WHILE AGO I WAS LOOKING AT PISTOLA KICKS VIDEOS ON YOUTUBE TO SEE IF THERE ARE ANY COMMON THEMES OR TECHNIQUES THEY USE IN THEIR VIDEOS AND FOUND VERY LITTLE BY THE OFFICIAL BAND. I WAS HOPING TO FIND TECHNIQUES WE COULD USE IN OUR OWN VIDEO IN ORDER TO APPEAL TO THE BAND'S TARGET MARKET AND THEREFORE THE INSTITUTIONS WHO MARKET THE MUSIC TOO. HOWEVER, MY SEARCH WAS NOT IN VAIN AS I FOUND THIS LITTLE GEM.

This is a music video made by Pistola Kicks fans of one of their songs from their EP. As the song has a slow depressing introduction so does the music video. This is shown through the black and white colouring and slow motion editing in order to match the beat of the music [screenshot 1]. I like this as it reflects the tone nicely which suggests that the lonely depressing theme is one Pistola Kicks often uses. This suggests that the band's target market will like our music video if we did the same thing to create a similar effect. Set partially in a psychiatrist's office this video is very similar to ours. This is because the choice of locations reflect a sense of lack of satisfaction in life as he is getting psychiatric help[screenshot 2].  As this music video was created by fans themselves this suggests that our target audience will like the office setting as it suits the narrative. This sense of lack of satisfaction in life is denoted by the word 'guilt' the man writes on a piece of paper whilst blindfolded [screenshot 3]. The psychiatrist's reaction connotes that the man has done something very bad and is self destructing  [screenshot 4]. This is connoted by the way he falls to the floor [screenshot 5]. This music video is also very similar to ours as there are contrasting mid shots and close up shots of the office scenes [screenshot 6 and 7]and performance shots on the screen [screenshot 8]. Some of these shots are similar to the ones we have used. We have used chose up shots of the protagonists eyes for the same effect. Just like our music video the shots get faster with speed of music. The performance shots are very experimental as they suit the beat of the music.  However, we felt that narrative based shots would be more appropriate for our music video. Either way our music video will attract the target market as indie music videos can be narrative based and experimental.
